Site Moving Problems

We have had a Catholic site on the Internet under our family name since 1996, and had more than 2,000,000 hits. However, when the founder of the site, who had been working in the computer industry since the 1970's, was no longer able to find work, we wondered why. After nearly two years, we found out that potential employers were using search engines to search for his name. One of the best ways not to be hired is to maintain a site like this one; employers don't mind hiring religious people if they don't know, but feel strongly about people that publish essays on the Internet. If this writer had been a big contributor to the NAACP, NOW, NRA or some other organization, the result would have been the same; it is not so much an anti-religion bias as anti-activist. Yes, it is illegal, but all forms of discrimination are still with us after all these years. Because we were forced into moving to a domain name and format that would hide our identity from search engines, a few links are broken and things are messy. You may notice that the author names look a bit strange on your browser. This is because they have been changed to graphics so HR departments and managers cannot easily search the name. We had more than 500 links or mentions at last count, and we are trying to convert them all to the new domain.

If you found this page while engaging in illegal, discriminatory practices, shame on you! There are many good workers who happen to be active Catholics, Moslems, Jews, African Americans, men or women, married or single. It is bad business to violate the Civil Rights Act and make hiring decisions based on your own personal hatred or discomfort.
